Yes, plants need water in order to make their own food.

This is because water is one of the reactants, or things that go into, the process of photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process by which plants convert energy from the sun into Glucose, a type of sugar that is later broken down by the plant in ATP, which serves as the energy source for the plants. This secondary process is called cellular respiration.

In photosynthesis, water molecules are split by the photons of light from the sun. The splitting of water releases an electron that goes to photosystem II and then goes through many redox reactions. The oxygen released by splitting water forms diatomic (2 atom) oxygen gas, which is released into the atmosphere. A hydrogen ion (positive) is also released when the water is split.

Would be very hard to do that for a plant because the plant uses water to supply electrons lost in the excitation of chlorophyll. Water is split to do this and photosynthesis would not proceed with out this ever ready electron supply.

Why do plants produce oxygen bubble when exposed to light?

Plants take carbondioxide in order to produce food for themselves. But the important product for their production of food is carbon so plants leave out oxygen as they donot have any use with it.
