You should always check the gap before putting sparkplugs in.
There's no guarantee the manufacturer has it right for your specific make/brand/model/engine.

The spark plug gap, for your 2004 Ford Taurus 3.0 liter engine, is .009. Most spark plugs will come pre-gapped.
Make sure you have the proper tools: 6"-8" Extension Nut driver/screwdriver (to remove coil packs) Spark plug socket with retainer (rubber washer) NGK spark plugs (bosch platnium plugs not recommended) Do them one at a time to ensure the plugs are replaced accordingly Spark plug gapper (ensure the plugs are gapped properly .044) DENCO come pre gapped; do not scrap needle point plugs (ruins electrode)
the spark plugs should be gapped when you buy them between .050 and .055 but check each plug before installing
Maybe when they put the spark plugs in they were not gapped right or they maybe the wrong spark plugs.
According to one of Fords websites : For a 1986 Ford Taurus : ( both the 2.5 liter four cylinder engine and the 3.0 liter six cylinder engine have the spark plugs gapped at .044 inch )
In a 1995 Ford Taurus : ( there are 6 spark plugs ) for the 3.0 or 3.8 V6 engines
If not gapped right your car might start shaking, or even stall or worse no star.
The gap needs to be checked before instillation.

most spark plugs should be checked and gapped annually. if your spark plugs are used up you should replace them
I put NGK iradium pre gapped plugs and they work great.
The spark plugs should be gapped to .040 inch.
