There is a time of the year when the Polar Bears have to adapt starving for a month of so. If a human happened to stumble across a Polar Bear at that time the human would be eaten. Totally.
Remember, many animals are just as afraid as us as we are of them. This is the case with the Polar bear, sometimes. If you make a sudden movement or assault and scare / hurt the Polar Bear, the Polar Bear would attempt to tear you to pieces of and kill you. Totally.

This is most times. If you are clever and gentle, you will most likely not be killed / injured by a Polar Bear.
