I don't know about the K9 question, but in regards to firearms, it depends on the local PD policy. Where I live, all officers carry department issued weapons. There are no options. The gun is a Sig 229M and I think the shotgun is a Winchester. Some cities issue weapons but have more than one option. Most larger cities issue guns, but in some smaller cities, officers buy their own handguns from a list of approved models. In some really small cities, officers can carry anything they want to buy. n Shiz

No, usually not. Ordinarily, Traffic Officers are not Police Officers-- although they can be in some jurisdictions. In most jurisdictions, some people who are Traffic Officers choose to advance themselves by becoming Police Officers, but this is not a necessary pursuit. The majority of Traffic Officers probably remain with that force for many years.
It depends on the locality. In the U.S. some cities have several choices and the police officer can choose one of those, some cities issue only one model and the officers must use that, and in some (usually very small) cities, police officers can carry anything they want.
I know one of the titles of the two presiding officers of the Senate. The one I know of is called President pro tempor (temporary presideant). If the Vice President is absent, the Senators choose this presiding officer.
There are no violations of the law here. Off duty police officers are free to meet with whomever they choose.
There is not a specific medal for a police officer wounded in action. The governor of a state or mayor of a city may choose to bestow a Medal of Honor or Medal of Valor on a police officer wounded in the line of duty, but there is not a specific one given solely to these brave officers.

Yes. California Dept. of Corrections officers are peace officers, and are allowed to carry their firearms on and off duty anywhere in the United States under the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act.
The presiding officers of Congress maintain order and moderate debates. The choose who will speak and they count the votes.
