Not well. Nickel has a different color than chrome. It is not a "true" silver. Also every manufacturer has a different shade of nickel so you can struggle to even match nickel between product lines. Stay with one or the other. Chrome is certainly less expensive and still looks great.
We have polished nickel for our bathroom fixtures but were unable to find the same finish for the drain hardware in the tub and sink. We had to use chrome and although it is different, not as warm and rich as polished nickel, it looks just fine. I don't know that anyone would ever notice it but me.
Along with chrome, polished brass is the most popular. Other finishes available are stainless steel, satin and brushed nickel.
Polished chrome is shiny like almost mirrored. Chrome is more Matte, less shine
Brushed nickel has a brushed dull finish. Polished nickel has a smooth shiny surface.
It all depends in what you're talking about. stainless steel in highly polished and reflective as a coating, whereas on bolts its just highly polished but if you buy a stainless steel fridge or stove it looks more like a brushed aluminum, in that case I would say, no, it does not match, however it is very contemporary and complement eachother. Chrome is a coating that when taken care of properly, cleaned and polished regularly, will look very similar to a stainless steel.

Assuming it's a nice finish, polished chrome or brushed nickel you can get more than if it's polished brass. I would compare what Target sells there's for. $15-20?
