The idea or prisms and lens is to refract the light that enters. THis means that although the angle of the light as it exits may be different, it still exits, letting light travel through. However, because the materials aren't perfect some of the light bounces off the lens/prism allowing you to see a faint reflection. This is a very small proportion so we can say they let the light through.
Mirrors are generally more effective at transmitting light than prisms because they reflect light without dispersing it, maintaining the original direction and intensity. Prisms, on the other hand, refract light and can disperse it into its constituent colors, affecting the transmission of light.

Hand lenses do not refract light themselves. They allow you to see objects more clearly by magnifying them. Refraction of light occurs when light passes through different mediums with varying densities or refractive indexes.

put your hand inside your bathing suit(before you put it on) and hold it up to the light...if you see your hand ...it is see through
I believe it is because light tries to shine through anything that is very close to it. Some light even manages to barely pass through, or at least show on the other side. A hand has red flesh and blood in it, therefore, the palm of the hand will appear to glow red.
