Salvia divinorum is the only species in the genus Salvia which contains salvinorins, the active compounds that produce a hallucinogenic effect. The leaves of S. divinorum could be used to trip, although one would need to use a much larger quantity than for the extract. The extract is simply the isolated and concentrated salvinorins (along with other compounds). Because the extract is more potent, it is generally much easier to get an effect from the extract, although it is certainly possible with simply the leaves (for example, a large quantity of leaves chewed as a quid).

What intensifies salvia?
You don't need to intensify salvia, and if you did for some reason want to then just buy stronger salvia. I've had 10x extract and regular old 40x the 10x extract had me tripping hard. I became a car and was driving through some old scenic road out west. The regular 40x i had a bad trip. However, smoking salvia while you're drunk does intensify the journey.
How much Salvia Divinorum 10X extracts to smoke to get a good trip?
That depends on your experience and physical condition. If you've never tried salvia before, you should be careful with the potency of the extract. 10X is a good one to start, you can get one hit and wait a few seconds, and repeat it till you start feeling the trip, then you stop smoking, put the leftover aside and ride like hell.
Can you take salvia extract orally?
In one of terrence Mckennas lectures he says you can take 20 leaves, fold them as small and thick as you can and put them in your mouth and masticate them. He says that this releases the chemical inside the leaves.However Terrance also said that smoking Chacruna gives you a DMT trip.... I have had no luck with this so far however.

Is salvia a hallucinagin?
Yes, Salvia is a hallucinogen.. You may experience hallucinations or uncontrollable laughter 20-30 senconds before exhaling. The trip can last from 5-15 minutes.
Can you eat salvia flowers?
Yes but not the kind you want. There's 100s of strains of salvia. The only one that gets you "high" is salvia divinorum. Google it and you will find lots of it for sale as well as live plants. I do not like it. Just way to overwhelming and scary. I believe that is why its still legal in most states. Once you try it a time or 3 you'll likely have a scary trip and simply never want to do it again. It is my opinion that this stuff is way more dangerous than LSD ever could be.
Can you chew salvia?
absolutely! in fact, that's my personal favorite method of using salvia (divinorum) It' unpleasant to actually do but the effects it yields are phenomenal. You want to chew anywhere between 10 (1 gram- produces a buzz) and 80+ (8+ grams- produces a trip, usually with 3-D open eyed hallucinations) leaves. You do not want to swallow, hold the leaves in your mouth (as many under the toungue as possible) for a minimum of 20 minutes (I recommend drinking a lot of water before hand as otherwise it may dry out your mouth) after 30 minutes, the leaves will be effectively "tapped" and you may spit them out or swallow them (it doesn't matter). During the first 20 minutes, you will feel an increasingly intense head buzz, may feel pulled or pushed around by invisible forces, intensely with higher doses, you may get visual distortion, this will peak after about a half hour (this is when you spit out or swallow the leaves) and you will get euphoria and trip for 40 minutes to an hour and a half, the trip will more likely be a good one than when you smoke it because it doesn't freak you you by the intense come on in under a minute, which causes most bad trips with salvia, then you will have 4-6 hours of a euphoric high after the trip wears off, (length depending on the dose) With an extract, divide accordingly taking in to consideration strength, (ie 80 leaves=8 grams=.8 grams of 10x=.4 grams 20x=.2 grams 40x, this should simple equasion should hold true for all strengths and doses providing the provider is both honest and accurate on the products strength, like mine is)
