Wood Spiders, more commonly called "Huntsman spiders", do not build webs. They hunt for insects and other invertibrates, sometimes catching small lizards. They are considered beneficial, and not harmful to humans (although their bite is painful and will cause local swelling and redness). Females will aggressively defend their egg sacs.
