Almost all Spiders are nocturnal by nature but it's not necessarily because they dislike light. It has more to do with the fact that almost all spiders make a web above ground level to be able to trap flying insects. Flying insects account for the majority of all arachnids diets. So considering the fact that most flying insects are attracted to light it would only make since that a spider would hunt at night so as to be able to place its web next to a light source. It's really all about letting the prey come to you.

Yes they can. I have seen a spider in Western Australia in the rural area around Albany past a little town called Elieker on the Lower Denmark Rd. Around Christmas time there were these webs with different coloured spiders in them. I was told they are called the Christmas spider. I am trying to find photos of them on the web. The only one that I have found so far was referring to a spider by the name of the jewel spider. It was only one spider. I really want to see the web with all the different coloured spiders in it again. I had never seen it before and it was so beautiful.
