It is common for a teenager to brush away advice, even if they know it can help them. They often fail to take advice when something is troubling them or they have something on their mind that consumes all other thought.
You should try and be persistent, though. If you give them the same advice for a long period of time, eventually it will reach their thoughts and they will start to, if not already, understand the advice.
Not all teens fail to take advice. Don't give up on them and they will learn to take advice. Just be sure it's good advice because sometimes training backfires and teens take every bit of advice dead serious.
