Broadcast Television company executives have an obligation first to their stockholders if they work for a publicly traded company or owners if the company is not publicly traded. Their second obligation is to their advertisers, which is how they make their money, and is related to the first obligation. Their third obligation is to their viewers, whose attention is what is sold to the advertisers. Professionally speaking, that is where it ends; however, as they are all presumably people and part of the larger human race, it can be argued that they have an even larger obligation to be responsible to the society in which they dwell. However, outside of public decency laws, FCC regulations, and retention of viewers, there is nothing outside their own consciences to make them behave rightly.
