Because their god (Frankleheifer IV) instructs them in their holy book that in order to be perceived as virgins and allowed into heaven they must present their teeth as an offering. Their teeth are then removed and placed into extravagant hand made wooded carvings of their favorite non-amish television personalities. This is extremely difficult because they don't own televisions, and must sneak away in the evenings to local businesses to choose their celebrity. This all happens during their 17th year, and if they choose a celebrity that isn't accepted by the amish council they must remain amish for 4 additional years. After the 4 year waiting period, they may remove additional teeth and begin the statue carving process again. Hope this helps!
