Yes. The Marines created MarSOC in 2006. The 1st and 2nd Marine Special Operations Battalions (MSOB) were created from the Force Recon companies. The 3rd MSOB was created in 2009. They conduct foreign internal defense (training foreign military units), recon, and direct action operations, similar to the Army Special Forces.
The primary special operations force of the USMC is simply known as MARSOC, the Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command. Also known as Force Recon from their historic origins as an elite Marine unit that wasn't attached to the Special Forces, it is not as well known as the Army Rangers and Navy SEALs becuase it is a relatively new outfit, established in 2006. Unlike Force Recon, MARSOC was established as a full member of the United States Special Operations Command (SOCOM) so as to coordinate an increased need for joint special operations and counter-terrorism.
SOCOM is the US military acronym for Special Operations Command; the command that coordinates special operations within the US.
Rapid Response Teams are defined per task; not as a permanent operations command within the USMC. The SpecOps group within the USMC are Force Reconnaissance Marines (FORECON).
DEVGRU(Naval Special Warfare Development Group) formerly known as SEAL Team 6 has a 9 month Special Operations Assaulter course. Im positive that Delta Force's selection time would be very similar to this,it used to be 6 months. But since the 2000's Special Operations units have been upping the anty on there selection courses. DEVGRU and Delta Force are very comparable so im sure Delta's selection is probably about the same.
Most people are surprised to hear that the most trained/longest training for a Special Operations Force is 1 year(possibly 1 year, 3 months) from the USAF PJ's(Pararescue Jumpers). PJ's are some of the most highly trained combat medics in the US military and often work with other US and international special operations units. Their training is longer than most other units because they go to more courses than other SOF units. No; not unless they volunteer for special operations.
SOCOM is the Army's special operations command. JSOC is the Joint Special Operations Command and encompasses all of the special ops units in the United States military, including those from Air Force, Navy, and Marines. Both commands are located at Ft. Bragg, NC.
No. Delta Force is part of the Army. The Marines have their own special operations forces.
Marines are not on par with the Seals. Marines are a regular force, seals are special operations. A more likely match would be Marine Recon Vs Seal
Marines are regular forces but have their own specialist special operations branches such as force recon. Rangers are elite light infantry who are trained to support tier one sf on operations. Seals are a special operations force who are as good or better than the rangers on land but are also trained in military diving and free fall parachuting. These skills set them apart, they also have the most difficult training of the 3 units. So the SEALs are 'the best'.
M16A2 (in second line units) M16A4 M4 M4A1 HK416 (special operations units only) FN SCAR (special operations units only) M14 and variants M110 Semi Automatic Sniper System M24 M107 Special operations units may also have access to non-standardized weapons.
A Joint Special Operations Task Force (JSOTF) is a military organization that brings together various special operations units from different branches or countries to accomplish a specific mission. It is designed to enhance coordination, interoperability, and effectiveness in conducting special operations missions in a joint or combined environment. JSOTFs are often employed in complex and high-risk operations, such as counterterrorism or unconventional warfare.
No, you do not have to be a Recon Marine to attend the USMC Combat Diver Course. However, the course is primarily attended by Recon Marines, as it is part of their specialized training. Other Marines, such as Force Reconnaissance and certain Special Operations units, may also attend the course.
MARSOC or MSOC either way Marine Special Operations Command.
All branches of the US military have a Special Operations unit, except for the Coast Guard. Army- Rangers, Special Forces, Delta, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment Navy- SEALs, SWCCs Air Force- Special Tactics: Combat Controllers, Pararescue, Special Operation Weather Technicians; Marines- Recon Battalions (not exactly special operations, but, more specialized than infantry) Force Recon Companies, MarSoc Coast Guard - no real SOF units, but they do have a Deployable Operations Group which acts as their "door-kicking" unit. In the past few years, they have been sending a handful of people to BUD/S, but as far as I know, only about 5-6 have passed.
The Royal Marines are a much smaller body of men who receive a longer and more intensive basic training and more advanced training in special operations skills.
