I assume that you asre referring to the most common of boards, the Parker Bros. version. If so, the images on the top corners represent the sun and the moon, the ones in the bottom corners are just depictions of people using the board. I guess to add to the spookiness factor of it.
Also, I have heard that if your planchette starts going to all four corners, it means that you've made contact with an evil spirit.
Whatever you do, do NOT let the planchette go to all four corners. If it begins to direct you to them and is continuing to go to the fourth corner say good-bye. You have contacted an evil spirit, as said above, and this is for safety reasons. Also moving to the four corners will release the demon or entity from the board as well as going through 0 to 9 and any row of letters.
