to begin with, the orthodontist clean your teeth for you and polish it with some weird liquid. then they apply some very nasty tasting, clear, cement like glue on your teeth and but the brackets (that is the square metal thing) on. they use some strange sci-fi like stick that gives of a blue glow and shine it on the glue which hardens the glue and makes sure it all sticks together. they do that to all your teeth and once that is done, they click the metal wire in place. the whole process takes ab out half and hour and the pain doesn't kick in for another 20-30 minutes. hope this helped... :)

well...

the ones i have are traintrack braces, they only kind of ache on the first week because your not used to them, but they don't really hurt when they are being put on, its just abit uncomfortable, anyway you get a choice of colour of bands for them and im sure you'll be ok x

No, it doesn't hurt to get them on at all! There's just some pressure on your teeth a few hours later.

They need adjusted by your orthodontist if they are cutting your gums. If you meant lips, a little beeswax at the spot where it is cutting your lips that will help.
