Because it's not necessary for objects to be in contact (touching) in order to feel the magnetic force between them.

What is needed to measure the force of gravity on an object?

Force of gravity is measured between two objects with Newton' formula....,Force = Gravitational constant * mass object-1 * mass object-2/radius2 (distance betweenboth objects' centers of mass )=================================Answer #2:Answer #1 above explains how to calculate and predict the force of gravityin advance. Nothing in Answer #1 facilitates a measurement. In order to measure the force, something like a bathroom scale is required.
