Most people think of the Golden Rule as a free right to pay back someone equally if they do something to you. However, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" means that you should treat someone with the respect and kindness if you expect them to be nice to you as well.
I'm not really sure what your question is here. You are quoting the verse from Luke 6:31, the Golden Rule. It is basically stating that you should treat others the way you would like to be treated. Jesus was stating this in contrast to the current thinking of the day. That is, if someone hits you, you can hit them back. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. Jesus is explaining the New Covenant - the message of grace. Namely, love your enemies and do good to those that persecute you. If you do this, you will be called the children of God.
No! Do unto others as you would want done unto you. It refers to when we have done something very stupid or harmful or socially or morally evil we would want understanding, grace and hopefully, if we were truly sorry and did not mean to ever do it again, we could be forgiven and pardoned from penalty... You should not kill because you yourself would not want to be killed... Do not swear falsely getting another into trouble because you would not want this... And so on
It is a very famous quote, meaning "treat others how you would like to be treated". Ex: If you are good to someone, they will be kind to you. If you are mean to someone, they will be mean to you.
People often think of it as the 'Golden Rule', saying 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you'. According to different Bible translations, this scripture at Matthew 7:12reads:
"...Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets..."(KJB)
"In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets. "(NASB)
This was part of Jesus 'revolutionary' teachings....LOVE your enemies, PRAY for those persecuting you, TREAT OTHERS with LOVE, the way you want to be treated, instead of paying back bad for bad.(Matthew 5:39, 44; 7:12)
A slightly modified version of the Golden Rule which Jesus Christ said
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets -Matthew 7:12
Matthew chapter 7 verse 12 or Luke chapter 6 verse 31
