Do head lice live in dirty hair?

Head lice are commonly thought of in relation to dirty people. This however is a point of view that is related back to propaganda and Hitler, his way of defending his views of certain races and certain people being less worth. However effective this propaganda was, it was still wrong. Head Lice actually prefer nice and clean hair. You will of course wash a lot of the lice out every time you clean your hair thoroughly, but you will not be able to get rid of them all. Dirty hair makes it more difficult for the lice to attach eggs to the hair. The lice would prefer to go elsewhere :-) But still. A home is a home. or in other words. Home sweet home.

Are scabies the same as crabs?

No. Scabies is a microscopic mite that are usually found on dogs. "Crabs" a.k.a. "pubic lice", are lice. Like the lice that people get in their hair, but head lice and public lice are different in the way that they are physiologically built to infest certain parts of the body.

How can you get lice even if you wash your head everyday?

The idea that head lice only infect people with poor hygene (dirty hair, etc.) is a complete myth. Lice don't care how clean, or dirty, your head is; only that you have hair.Transmission of head lice comes often from sharing clothing (particularly hats and scarves), sharing bedding, or sharing hairdressing tools or accessories (brushes, barrettes, etc.). Basically anything that makes contact with an infected person, especially with their hair, becomes a way for head lice to transfer themselves to another person. The best method for prevention of head lice is not by maintaining good personal hygene (though it couldn't hurt), but simply by not sharing things that can transmit the lice with other people.

Can dirty heads get lice?
