One reason Venus is bright is because it's so close to the Sun. Obviously, Venus appears much brighter when it's near Earth in its orbit.

Yes, the atmosphere of Venus is important too. It does reflect a lot of the Sun's light.

But Venus hasn't got "glowing gases". It's mainly just the clouds in the atmosphere that reflect a lot of sunlight.
