Why are the main support cables of the suspension cables designed to sag?

They can't be designed not to. Large cables and ropes are extremely different to stretch straight, because of their high weight-to-length ratio.

Why use 16mm cable for earthing?

A large cable for earthing is to allow for the possibility of a very large current which would melt a smaller one thus removing the protection it is supposed to provide.

Why are giant machines that are designed with pulleys for these functions instead of hydraulics?

Not sure if I know what "giant machines" are, but I can make a comparison with Airplanes. Some large aircraft use pulleys and cables to work the flight controls and the newer ones use hydraulics or electrical servos. The cables have an advantage in that they are less complicated than hydraulic controls. Hydraulics have to have a reservoir, a pump, and usually high pressure lines as well as a return line. This requires a lot of maintenance and present more problems if the hydraulic lines required for large vehicles. The larger the vehicle, the more hydraulic oil to fill the lines. Modern military jets and the A380 use smaller hydraulic lines pressurized at 5000psi, which reduces the required volume of oil. Of course, a system pressurized at 5000psi seems to present more problems than a 3000 psi. Now, the cons of the pulley and cable is that this does not apply as much force as a hydraulic system. Also, for long cable runs and complicated controls, the cables require a lot of rigging and adjustment and checking the cable for damages from wear. Did that help??

What is the current carrying capacity of 240 Sq mm?

A 240 sq. mm. cable has a diameter ofd=square root of 4A/3.14d= 2(square root of A/3.14)= 2(square root of 240/3.14=17.48 mm.Therefore your cable has a capacity of only 515 amperes in free air. If installed in a duct with three conductors your conductor will have an ampacity of only 350 ampers.Alternative AnswerThe answer is not straightforward, because it depends upon various factors such as the material from which the conductor is manufactured (copper or aluminium), the type of insulation employed, and the configuration of the cable (how many conductors), installation method, etc.An Appendix to BS 7671:2008 Requirements for Electrical Installations, lists cable types according to these various factors, and specifies their current ratings.

Why does some battery cables get hot and some don't on golf cart?

Heat in an electric cable or connection indicates resistance. Either the connection is not tight or large enough, or there is too small or deteriorated a cable. Clean connections or replace the cables, retighten and try again.

What would happen if you use a shielded cable as a speaker cable?

There is a great deal of debate about the type of cable that should be used for speakers. Some say it should be large diameter single strand. Others maintain that it should be multi-strand. Still others claim that the conductors should be a certain spacing, have a specific insulator and more. In reality, the main requirement for speaker cable is that it should have a low resistance compared to the impedance of the speaker. The spacing, stranding and the lay up of the cable make little or no difference to the signal that reaches the speaker. There are cables designed specifically for speakers that are effectively co-ax cables with a center core and an outer screen as the return. Although most screened cables are not recommended for use as speaker cables, virtually all cables will work if the cable length is short. Speakers can draw a high current and small diameter cables can suffer from heating at high power levels. For this reason more than others, a small shielded cable is not the best choice.

How do they protect submarine cable from damage?

There is little that can be done to actually protect undersea cables. However, as they cables come on shore they are more heavily armored with steel outer layers than the portions that are deep under the sea. Large international cable operators expect that cables will be damaged from things like ship anchors, landslides and earthquakes. To protect against these things they install redundant cables on entire different routes. In the event of a failure the undamaged cable carries all of the traffic until repairs are made to the damaged section. It should be noted that a number of smaller cable systems do not have redundant paths and will therefor be down until repairs are made.

What is the difference between baseband coaxial and broadband coaxial cable?

The difference between baseband coaxial and broadband coaxial cable is baseband coaxial technology uses digital signaling in which the cable carries only one type of digital signal. Where as the broadband coaxial technology typically transmits analog signals and is capable of transmitting multiple frequencies of data simultaneously.

How do you repair the accidentally cut fiber optic cables?

What is the best way to determine if a cable inside a computer is a data cable or power cable?

Per the A+ book "Guide to Managing and Maintaining your PC," it says to know for sure what type of cable you're dealing with, trace the cable from its source to its destination. Generally, a power cable will be coming from the power supply unit, while data cables don't. That is the big block in one of the corners of the case, with the power switch and AC in on the outside of the case. Also, power cables' sockets will almost always be either rectangular, split into an even number of equally sized squares, or rectangular with one rounded corner and 4 metal pins, whereas data cables come in all shapes and sizes. The easiest way is to check if the cable is coming from the power supply. Most of the time power wires are black (ground), red (5v), yellow (12v), and sometimes orange (3.3 v). Power cables are usually large gauge wires. Data cables are usually flexes or fine gauge wires. Data are grey or black ribbon cables, for PATA. Small flat single color for SATA (commonly red or black).
