I close mine. Early in the season, like now, put your hand up near the register and you will feel the warm air from your rooms convecting into the attic. Or you may feel a cold draft from some of them. What is happening is that the ductwork in the attic is becoming cooled; then the warm air from the house is rising into the cool area, setting up a loop in which there is a constant loss of your heated air.

It may seem minimal, but over the course of an entire season it adds up. Don't forget the return vent. I replace the filter with a piece of cardboard (try a panel from the box the filters came in).

Should ac vents be placed in the ceiling or floor?

Either way will work ok as long as the system is designed that way from the beginning. The best place for the air conditioning registers (vents) will depend on who designs the system and the construction of your home. In some homes it is not practical to install the registers in the floor that have a concrete foundation. If you have a very low or flat roof it may not be practical to install them in the ceiling. Houses that are cooling most of the year have the registers in the ceiling and home that heat most of the year tend to have the registers in the floor.

What are the Differences between program invisible registers and program visible registers?

The programming model of the 8086 through the Pentium II’s considered to be program visible because its registers are used during application programming and are specified by the instructions. Other registers, detailed later in this chapter, are considered to be program invisible because they are not addressable directly during applications programming, but may be used indirectly during system programming. Only the 80286 and above contain the program-invisible registers used to control and operate the protected memory system.

What is minimum cfm out of each ac register on a central system?

That depends on the size of each room and how many registers are in each room. For example. If you have 600 sqft of space you are looking at around 1 ton of needed cooling. For that 1 ton you will need appx 400 cfm total for it to operate properly. If you have 4 registers, that`s 100 apiece. If you have less registers each one will deliver more cfm, more registers less cfm per register.

What is control and status registers?

Control and status registers are special types of memory locations within a device or system that are used to control its operation (control registers) or report its current state (status registers).
