Yes. Even though the ham is precooked, tight foil wrapped around a ham keeps the juices in. Any ham not wrapped tightly in foil can become dry after cooking. The dryness increases with time.

Food packaging is probably a foil appearance plastic so I wouldn't chance it. Check the instructions.

Ham may not need to be covered with tin foil, but doing so will result in a more moist and tender ham, and help prevent the ham browning too much or burning.

Should you cover your ham with foil while baking?

yes, due to the length of time it takes to bake a ham, you need to protect the outside of the ham from getting tough. the moisture in the ham would dissipate too fast friom the surface and it would be very dry. some cooks remove the foil the last 10-15 minutes so browning occues or a sauce is applied for taste.

How long do you bake a fresh ham 22lb bone in with sauerkraut?

On 450 degress, about 4 hours. Ham of that size take a very long time. SURROUND IT IN FOIL!!!!!!!!!!! Bake at 325 degrees for about 3 til 4 hours checking it periodically to make sure it's not drying out. Cover ham with tin foil. I always like to marinate my ham with Liquid Smoke & honey on ham & it always turns out very juicy & delicious. Last year I decided to do a test just to see what would happen if I baked a ham at 20 minutes per pound, needless to say the ham was so dry it was pathetic, DO NOT BAKE HAM FOR 20 MIN PER POUND. This was a test to prove some people wrong & once again I was right on how long a ham should bake.

You should cook a spiral sliced ham for 20 minutes per pound at 325 degrees F. A great recipe: Place ham in roasting pan. Cover with pineapple juice. Cover with tin foil and refrigerate overnight. To cook, pour off pineapple juice and mix in 1/2 cup honey and a few tablespoons of brown sugar. Mix well and pour over ham. Cover with tin foil and bake at 150 - 200 degrees F for 6 to 8 hours.
