This also depends on your definition of "drink" and "eat" if your definition of eat involves chewing (as is the general consensus) then I would conclude that the correct word to use is "drink" because people do not usually chew smoothies. However, it has been pointed out that many people do not chew ice cream, yet it is universally agreed that you eat ice cream. Perhaps this is because ice cream is undeniably solid. Smoothies seem to be in between solid and liquid, but I would classify them as liquid because despite the thickness, smoothies have a viscosity and do not have a definite shape. Therefore, you drink a smoothie.
