No, the coat is chosen randomly and each one gives your horse different bonuses.
Yes you can, but if the horse has the 5th element coat before the Medusa's blood the wings will not show up. If however the horse has the Medusa's blood before putting the 5th element on the horse it will have visible wings.
There isn't really a rarest one - They're all pretty rare! That's why all of them are really expensive. -Kатнячп•Fυııэя
The 5th Element Coats were a very limited edition black market item and are no longer available. You now have to buy a howrse with one of the 5 elements already attached to get it.
A person who makes and fits horse shoes. This is the 5th highest paid job on howrse.
It is no longer available but was worth 5 passes in the Black Market. It's worth now is relative to how much a player is willing to pay for a horse with the element attached, since the item itself is no longer available by itself. 9/10/11: The 5th Element is not available through the Black Market but through special offers from Howrse some players have them and you can trade for them through the Item Exchange. Actually, they are having halloween cards until tomarrow on 11-11-12 and if you find the certain amount of so and so cards you have a chance of winning the 5th element ;)
For Howrse's 5th riding level it is a safety stirrup.
They recently celebrated their 5th Birthday if I remember correctly

"On the 5th of July, 1775, a resolve was passed to provide each of the non-commissioned officers and soldiers of the army authorized to be raised under resolve of April 23, 1775, with a coat, and 13,000 were ordered to be provided by the towns and districts, in accordance with a regular apportionment. This gift of a coat was considered in the nature of a bounty, and later, at the time of their distribution, the men in service were permitted to choose between acceptance of the coat or a sum of money in lieu thereof."
