The only way you can get your premiums back when a term life policy expires, is if you purchased what is known as a "return of premium rider". This would have been done initially when you bought the policy.

What this does, is generally doubles the premium (on average), versus what you would have paid without this option. The good thing about doing this, is that it would ensure you would receive 100% of paid premiums back at the end of the term (assuming you were still alive).

Some people don't like this because it costs more. However, other people see it as getting your money back after initially paying double, versus paying half the premium, and never getting any of it back (unless you die within the term defined in the policy).

Can you get money back for cancelling a life insurance policy?

If your life insurance policy has a cash value, you will receive that amount back minus any surrender fees. Term insurance does not normally have cash value, so you won't get anything back at cancellation. Some term insurance policies have a Return of Premium feature, that will return a portion of premiums paid back, if you cancel before age 65.

No, you usually do not receive money back when you can cel a term life policy. However, return premium term life insurance policies return premium to you if you outlive the term of your policy, less any expenses and fees the carrier charges. In addition, if you have paid your premiums ahead of time for an annual, semi-annual, or quarterly payment plan, you may receive the pro-rata premiums back for time you have not owned the policy.

If you had life Insurance on a loan and it was paid off is the life insurance still in effect?

May need more info. But, if the owner took a loan from a cash value policy, then paid the loan back without the policy lapsing, then policy would still be in affect provided that any premiums due were paid and the policy has not lapsed. I would be happy to help you figure this out if you don't have a current agent. Brian Lombardo, CPA, Agent

If the policy that you have with United Investors is a whole life policy and has accumulated cash value then you can take a policy loan against it. Your policy is less than you paid in?

If we are talking a life insurance policy:The first 2 years of premiums goes toward the administration of the policy, the policy's premiums are invested by an asset group within the insurance company, dependant on market conditions the terminal (final bonus added on claim) and reversionary bonus (yearly added bonus) rates vary. The premiums paid into the policy do not accrue like it would in a bank account and therefore you are not guaranteed to receive back what you have paid in.

Can your son save money on his car insurance by adding your name to his insurance even although you have your own insurance?

Every driver your son puts on his policy will increase his premiums. It might reduce his premiums, if he claims that you're the primary driver and he's an incidential driver but that's insurance fraud and could come back to bite him.

What if i receive life insurance policy but not satisfied?

There may be a Free Look period in your life insurance policy The Free Look period acts like a money-back guarantee in that it allows you to return the life insurance policy to the insurance company within a set period of time from the day you receive the life insurance policy, in order to get a full refund of the premiums paid. Otherwise, if the free look period was say 30 days and you have had the policy for 45 days, you could request a cancellation of the policy and get a pro-rata return of premiums, subject to the terms and conditions of your life insurance policy. Make sure you read your life insurance policy and review the requirements and instructions on how to cancel the policy, or use the Free Look period.

What is a health insurance rider?

A provision in an insurance policy allowing for amendments to its terms and/or coverage. Usually riders are placed on health insurance companies to exclude specific pre-existing conditions. The insurance rider is an added feature to a policy. An example is a money back rider on a term policy which would return the premiums at the end of the policy term. You generally pay extra for a rider as it is an additional benefit.

Why does the insurance company get paid back the money Isn't that why we pay our premiums?

You pay premiums because insurance companies are a business and they are there to make a profit. Also, the premiums you pay go into a pool of money so the insurance company can pay out claims when necessary.

Is a life insurance policy valid is taken out as a nonsmoker then resume back to smoking?

It usually would be invalid. Smoking is generally a clause for acceptance of the insurance. A smoker would pay higher rates for the insurance. So claiming to be a nonsmoker to get insurance and then smoking would be a type of fraud. Thus negating the policy and forfeiting all premiums payed.

What are examples of cash value insurance?

Cash value insurance can be "whole life insurance" or "universal life insurance". There are few differences on how the funds are invested and if dividends can be paid that would increase the cash value, but both types of permanent life insurance can accumulate cash value. There is also a type of term insurance that has a "return of premium" feature that will return all premiums back at the end of the term. This type of term life policy is not actually accumulating cash value because you only get back the premiums you paid.

What should I know before buying affordable life insurance?

Read ALL of the fine print. Check to see how long the policy lasts and if there are any conditions that would allow the insurance company to not have to pay out the money if you were to die. Make sure you also check to see if you can renew your policy after it expires or if you get money back if you are still alive at the end of the policy.
