Well it all depends on what war. if it is world war 2 we declared war because the Japanese bombers attacked us. in the civil war Abe didn't want the slavery to go into the Union so the only choice was to fight to end it. in other cases we were ether attached or we attacked them for our allies

It was not your choice to pick if you wanted to got to war or not. It was not optional you had to go. Unless you had a valid reason for not going like lets say you are too old and ill to go to war you would make weapons or work in a factory any way you would still be contributing some work for war.
You can go to a local charity that gives things to the war of your choice and donate things like prepaid phone cards, clothes, canned goods, etc.
