It depends on your specific model and what type of fuel system you have.Basically there are three types of fuel filters 1.Internal (used on carburated models located where the fuel line connects to the carburator)nothing really special about this one except it has a check valve in the filter that has to be oriented correctly facing toward the fuel line. 2.)Inline (usually on thr rear crossmember inline from the tank to engine fuel line.) on fuel injected models you must relieve the fuel line pressure before removal by pulling the fuel pump fuse then starting the vehicle and letting it run out of fuel.remove and replace making sure any o-rings are in good condition, filter fuel flow direction is correct, and tighten to the proper torque. re-install the fuse for the fuel pump and turn the ignition to the ON position to prime the system and check for leaks. 3.)in-tank this is usually self-cleaning unless completely submerged in water. It is normally located in the tank on the end of the pickup tube. I would suggest getting a shop manual like Chilton/Haynes for your specific year model to make sure there aren't any differences in procedures.Without knowing the year, engine size, etc this is general knowledge and should be used as such. P.S. I'm not an expert but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night.
need to change fuel filter
There is a fair amount of fuel that will leak when changing the filter.
The Subaru Outback fuel filter is located inside of the fuel tank. Changing the fuel filter can be very costly and time-consuming.
The fuel filter is located in the gas tank. Remove the fuel line. Next, remove the fuel filter retaining plate. Last, remove the fuel filter and replace with a new fuel filter.
At the left front corner of the fuel tank. To reach it jack up the left rear tire and remove it. The filter is at the top left corner and has special retaining clips. They usually require a special tool to loosen but needle-nose pliers might work too. Your problem might not be the filter, though. If replacing the filter doesn't change anything, chances are you need a new fuel pump. Since it is located inside the fuel tank itself, changing it is a job for a mechanic with a lift. Good luck!
There is a special tool you need. Available at most auto supply stores.
bleed the fuel and then start or manualy fill the new fuel filter and then try it
Do you have to prime the fuel filter on a 1994 acura legend when replaced
if changing the fuel filter, and it still stalls out. you have a problem with the fuel not getting to engine.
Try changing the fuel filter.
It has a permanent fuel filter mounted in the fuel tank, that never needs changing. It is replaced when the fuel pump is replaced.
the fuel filter should be located on the frame under the drivers seat just in front of the fuel tank If your looking into changing it yourself make sure you have the special tool to do it because if you just take it out and put a new filter in then you will most likely brake your line.
