If you want to work as an army nurse, medical or dental officer, solicitor or veterinary surgeon, you must already have the relevant qualifications and experience for your chosen profession when you apply for officer training.

That can't be right. In the US, at least, many students join up as soon as they graduate from high school. That's either 12 or 13 years of education (depending on whether they attended kindergarten.)

The Army, like all the armed services in the US, requires a high school education or a GED. There may be some limited exceptions, but the current technology level of the weapons systems requires some fairly in depth understanding and reading.
