The Marine Corps at this time (2009) will only allow about 5% of the recruiting mission to be GEDs, and the rest require a high school diploma. With enough college credits you do not need a high school diploma and will be counted as a high school graduate. I'm not sure how many credits are needed, though.

There is only one true way out of Marine Corps Boot Camp. That is to walk across the parade deck with your head held high, and graduate a Marine. Otherwise there are consequences to deal with. i.e. Other Then Honorable Discharges, or General Under Honorable Conditions.
