Those 2 games are standalone. Meaning that they don't link. They are the same franchise, but different standalone games. If AoE3 was an expansion pack to AoE2, then yes, but in this case, you can have either AoE2 or 3, or you can have both. They are 2 different games is what I'm trying to say.
