There are roughly two paths, depending in on the college and what it wants from its president.

1. Become a noted scholar- publish some good papers and work at being noticed . Learn to schooze and stroke effectively. An attractive wife may help. Once you get to be dean or associate dean, work at doing a good job and always look a for chance to move up, even it you have to go to another school.

2. Become well known as a politician or general or even as a college athlete if you also earn a doctorate in something even physical education or law . Robert E. Lee, Dwight Eisenhower and several US senators and governors took this route to a college presidency.

No. Nothing in the Constitution requires any particular educational level. The sole requirements are that the president be a natural born citizen, 35 years of age or older and a resident in this country for at least 14 years. In fact, presidents have had a wide range of education-- for example, Abraham Lincoln was largely self-taught, while Woodrow Wilson had a PhD.

That depends on the college or university and their requirements. Most all college and university presidents have a doctorate degree.
