for most schools as well as just to be competitive yes it is important. Your GPA is a big factor in getting in along with your MCAT score. You could try to complete a premed program in lieu of it. Either way you must complete the core courses.
No school, INCLUDING Harvard, combines college with med school. You still need your bachelors degree before you can go to med school ANYWHERE. Some schools may have programs where you can shorten the span from 8 years to 7 but no school combines them.

You can get into med school with any degree as long as you take the pre-reqs for med school, its usually 1 yr of bio, chem, organic, physics and some other classes. Alot of ppl say that if you have a non-science major it makes you stand out a bit from other med school candidates, but make sure your GPA and Mcat scores are competitive.
Pre-med is not a degree. It is typically a program within a degree to ensure an individual who will be pursing a medical degree has all the appropriate prerequisites required for medical school. In essence, students who wish to apply to medical school come from a variety of disciplines.

Its the degree MEd means a Masters degree in Education
Traditionally, most Pre-Med students choose to do their undergraduate studies in a Pre-Med Major (which many colleges offer). Pre-Med Majors typically touch on a variety of subjects including chemistry, organic chemistry, macro and micro biology, cellular biology, and anatomy. Although this is the more popular choice, students who are looking to attend medical school after their undergraduate studies can pursue a degree in anything they like. Typically, however, pursuing a degree in Pre-Med or one of the sciences will make you more marketable and appealing to Medical Programs.
