Wal-Mart Stores are either metro or non-metro. Metro Assistant Manager starting salary is $43,500 and caps at $60,000. Non metro is $38,000 and caps at $54,500. Some markets do have a market differential.

First off, I hope you're already working at Wal-Mart. Several of our current managers have worked at our store for a while and started off at the bottom to earn their position of Asst. Manager. Make sure you meet all of the requirements. Just work hard, have a positive attitude and outshine yourself. Show them that you're willing to do what it takes. I was 18-years-old when I started at Wal-Mart and now at 19-years-old (and working there for a short 4 months) my managers have mentioned several times that I should take the Dept. Manager position. They see that I am willing to work hard and accomplish what's asked of me. If you don't already work there, I would recommend getting your foot in the door (at the highest position they offer) and show them that you're a good worker. Eventually they will see that and get you moving towards your goal. Just hope you don't end up hating that store and company. =P Very good example, in addition Walmart does hire out of company. If you have a four year business degree your a shoe in for walmart management, especially with prior experience.
