No, you just have to go to Oreburgh city than go to the top right area with your fossil. There should be a funny looking building. Go to the desk and talk to the scientist, he will tell you to go away( you only have to go outside than back inside) than he will tell you your late and he'll give you your fossil back as a Pokemon.
Mysterious fossil is not a Pokemon. Only Pokemon are listed on the Pokedex. You must revive the fossil in the Pewter City museum.
Alright actually you can get Cranidos in pearl. All you need is the national pokedex. Go back to the underground until you find the fossil but you do need the national pokedex to find it.
