The images are free, in so much that you don't have to pay for the image each time you use it, unless I am much mistaken, though the owner may only release a low quality image in this way and ask for you to pay for a high quality image each time. This isn't much of a problem, because a mildly skilled graphic designer can make a poor quality image quite a bit better.
