Yes! Unless you receive a W-2 from your employer, (where taxes are taken out automatically) more than likely you would receive a 1099 and pay Estimated Tax payments on a Quarterly basis.
answer #2
if you receives a 1099 you are a subcontractor essentially a business. You will pay income tax, self employment tax unemployment and possibly workers' comp depending on the state. On the positive side your income can be offset by legitimate business expenses such as booth rental, supply costs, etc. Your tips are also taxable income so be sure to keep an accurate record of those as well.
If you receive a W-2 you are an "employee" your taxes will be withheld. Your tips are still taxable. You are much more limited in the expenses you may deduct from your W-2 wages.

A hair stylist
Becoming a hair stylist does not take much time. Some good resources include http://www.wikihow.com/Become-a-Hair-Stylist, http://www.spabeautyed.com/career-center/hair-stylist or http://hairstylescene.wordpress.com/2011/02/11/2011-hair-ideas-trends-and-tips/.
It all depends on the stylist, their experience level, and YOUR hair. If you have a lot of hair, it will definitely take a lot longer than someone with shorter or thinner hair. I would guess an average at about one hour, but be prepared to pay more just to be on the safe side. If you want to be super sure, call your stylist and ask for an estimate to make sure you're fully prepared on the day of your appointment.
