Life insurance premiums are not tax deductible, in general.

However, group life insurance premiums are deductible for a business if the death benefit is $50,000 or less.

Also, using key man insurance and executive bonus mechanisms, sometimes there can be some tax advantages. But, the premium is not deductible.

Are life insurance premiums deductible on year end taxes?

No. That's why the proceeds aren't taxed as income. Answer Correct...premiums are taxable. Death benefits are generally not taxed as income. Also if it is permanent life insurance policy and has some cash value built up and you take that cash out, the amount of cash less the premiums paid into the policy ("your gain") is taxable. Additional comment: Actually, if you take your cash value out as a loan, you do not have to pay taxes on "gains" as long as the life insurance is in place, hopefully until you die.

Are taxes taken out of life insurance?

Personal life insurance proceeds are generally paid out free of income taxes as long as the premiums were paid with after-tax dollars. But if a business paid the premiums and deducted the premiums as an operating expense, then the life insurance proceeds would be taxable to the beneficiary.

Do you have to pay taxes on life insurance?

Life insurance death benefits are paid out tax-free as long as your premiums were paid with after-tax money. If you have a cash value life insurance policy and surrender the policy, you may be subject to a taxable gain if the total cash value exceeds the cost basis of the policy.

What are the basic forms of whole life insurance?

Straight whole life is a whole life policy that provides a constant level of protection and level premiums throughout the life of the policy which is until death of the policyholder or age 100 as long as the premiums are paid. Limited pay whole life is a whole life policy in which premiums are paid for a set number of years at which the policy is considered paid in full. i.e. a 20-pay policy in which premiums are paid for 20 years and coverage is good for life. The shorter the period for premiums the higher they will tend to be. Single premium whole life is a whole life policy in which one substantial single premium is paid at the beginning and from that point on the policy is considered paid in full. This premium gives it an immediate cash value. Straight whole life Limited pay whole life Single premium whole life

Do you pay taxes on a life insurance policy that has been surrendered?

Yes, life insurance is a tax deferred item. If the policy is paid on the death of the insured there is no income tax on the proceeds as long as you never deducted the premiums paid on the policy. You never want to take a tax deduction on the premiums as it makes the proceeds taxable. Estate taxes can attach if proceeds are paid to the estate or a trust. If, however you surrender a life insurance policy that has a cash value you are subject to income taxes. As a matter of full disclosure, I own and operate a small Independent Insurance Agency in Georgia and have for 22 years. I also was an agent for a direct writer insurance company for 3 years prior.

Do you have to pay taxes on a partial life insurance paid out due to total disability?

If I'm not mistaken, life insurance is paid out on death. It may have a clause that pays the premiums on it in event of disability, but that, like a policy that pays you on disability, is basically under a disability insurance benefit, not life insurance policy.

Do you have to pay taxes on life insurance inheritance?

Taxes on a individual life insurance policy is generally not taxable in any manner. A main factors in deciding the taxabiity of this is who paid the premiums for the life insurance and whether or not it was deducted on a tax return. If the premium was paid through a group life plan where the employer paid the premiums entirely then it would be taxable. Most employee benefit plans are set up by professionals who are aware of such things and make sure that the small premiums for the life and disability insurance are paid by the employee with after tax money so that tax problems do not arise.
