If the self quilted fabric is finished on both sides, no.

Some self quilted fabric isn't "reversible", the backing isn't fabric that you want to be seen. It would depend on the project, but I would shy away from the unfinished one and look for something that is reversible. It's more expensive, but makes for a quick project.
