You first need to remove the water pump. The thermostat is mounted inside water pump housing. It is a cumbersome process removing the water pump. Like loosening the belt tensioner and attached belts. Install new thermostat ensuring it is in the right direction.( There is an arrow on the thermostat showing which direction shall face the flow of coolant).
