In the Outsiders, Ponyboy can be described as reckless, intelligent, small, and other traits like those.
Ponyboy is concerned because he feels like he has just made up with darry! He feels like now he understands him and realizes why he did things so he (Ponyboy) doesn't want to hurt Darry anymore!
Darry's crying have such a profound effect on Ponyboy because Ponyboy realizes that Darry does care and love him after all. At the beginning of the story Ponyboy thinks Darry doesn't like and he thinks he likes Sodapop. But then of the story when Darry starts crying, Ponyboy realizes that Darry does care about him.
Ponyboy is attracted to Cherry physically and Cherry likes Ponyboy because he isn't rude like the other boys. Even though she is a Soc, she doesn't care about Ponyboy being a greaser, she cares more about him as a person.
In "The Outsiders", Darry's greatest fear is Ponyboy will get hurt and die like their parents did. After their deaths, he took up the responsibility of raising Ponyboy and Sodapop. As a result, he fears losing any more members of his family.
