I think a "top overhaul" will do. They will just change a gasket which prevents the oil from leaking into the water.
did you check the radiator or the head gasket?
Most definitely.
Not a good idea to add water. You should add an engine coolant available from any auto parts store. You should never remove the radiator cap when engine is hot! Wait until the engine has cooled down then remove cap. Fill radiator with engine coolant, replace cap and then refill coolant reservoir. That procedure will get you to a garage where they will find out why it overheated in the first place.
The water pump for an s-10 engine is located on the front of the motor. The engine can be damages if it overheats due to a bad pump.
If it doesn't open water /coolantwill not circulate and car overheats. If you drive without one mileage will decrease as engine won't be as efficient. Easy to replace I did one when I was 11 years old
I've had this happen to me before. I had the water pump replaced after it had been leaking a little and my car overheated. We thought it might have been leaking again but turns out the mechanics had forgot to tighten something. I would have them look at it once more to make sure nothing is loose and leaking your coolant.
Check engine. Is radiator really full? Does the rad. fan come on? Is the fan belt on water pump tight? If these things are ok, you probably need a new thermostat.
Could be the water pump went out.
fan clutch?
Try replacing the thermostat.
have the engine timing checked. if the timing is wrong the engine will overheat, are you loosing coolant?is the fan working, is the water pump working?
It could be coming from the water pump, or from the bottom radiator hose. If it is the water pump, change it before the engine overheats. If the engine in any GM product overheats, you will likely be installing a new one or rebuilding the old.
