Until later in fall 2008, you also do not need a passport to travel by ship to Canada -- but you will need a certified copy of your birth certificate and a government-issued photo ID. Implementation of the regulations requiring passports for travel by land and ship to all countries, including Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean, were postponed and a new date has not been established. To fly into Mexico you HAVE to have a passport. As of right now the only way you can get into Mexico without a passport is by land travel, but that will change as of Summer 2009. As of Summer 2009 you will need a passport for any land travel into Mexico and Canada.
