Northern Ireland is part of the UK so you need no ID to travel there. In fact since the UK and Eire are in a common travel area so you need no idea to travel anywhere within the British Isles. However since the war on terror, many airlines will require you produce ID, However there were no such caveats during the troubles.

I'm almost positive about that. You need a passport if you want to travel to a different country, so most likely yes.

.

Not between the UK mainland and Northern Ireland, which is British so not a different country, unless the ferry company insist on passports for their own security (as happens for internal flights within the UK). You may need one to travel between the Republic of Ireland (Eire) and the UK as that is a "different" country.

NO. But under the requirements of European law and the Athens convention, you are required to disclose certain details about you. You will need a passport or identification.

That will depend on your nationality. Irish or British citizens wouldn't necessarily need one. As a general rule though, for any international travel, bring a passport with you.

Yes. I've never been asked for any form of ID travelling from NI to Scotland by ship. Its generally regarded as a domestic ferry trip. But if you are flying you need to check with your airline as to what form of ID they require. Ryanair etc require a passport for all of their passengers
