Yes all roofs should be vented. Venting can be accomplished by installation of baffels between the top of the insulation and bottom of the roofing. You will need to install soffet vents and a roof peak vent for proper venting.
RE: this is a single story "lean to" style adddition onto the side of a two story home. there is no peak or gables on the addition. the ceiling just attaches to the bottom of the 2x12 pitch up to where it attaches to the side of the house. do i still need to use baffels? the only place i could put vents is in the sofit.
It could mean waterfalls (les Chutes du Niagara for example)

Carefully. First, do not let a contractor merely stuff the space with insulation and then place the sheetrock. You must have them install what are called attic chutes or vent chutes between each rafter. Very easy and inexpensive to do. This insures air can travel up the sloped ceiling and to the attic or ridge vent above. Otherwise, you run the risk of condensation builing up in the walls which leads to mold which leads to unexplained sickness. And eventually you realize everything must be torn out and redone.

They are called show or clipping chutes, these chutes are different from other retraining chutes as they allow the handler easy access for show day preparation. The entire body is able to be combed, dried, and clipped with out bars in the way. These chutes are also able to be collapsed and transported much easier.
