In order to lighten hair you have to remove color from hair. Shampoos that say will lighten your hair, work in a very diffrent way than color. Most all shampoos making this promise are of blue-purple coloring, and work to neutralize the gold in the hair. Think about color theroy. Green neutralizes red, purple or violot will neutralize yellow. Gloden blonde hair is nothing more than a yellow coloring to hair. I would be cautious, due to very porus hair, this may leave you looking like a blue haired lady, and I am sure this is not the look your going for! The only products that will lighten hair that is not a hair color is products like "sun In" that are peroxide based sprays that work with heat from blow dryer or the sun to lighten hair more intensely than lemon juice. Those shampoos are fine if you have a Pale blonde hair already and have gotten a residue that tinged hair yellow, but if that is case i would just use a clarifying shampoo and suds it up, get out of shower with suds still in hair, DRY OFF (be careful not to electricute ones self) and heat hair up for 5-10 min, and rinse off immediately. The heat will help remove residue and build up from styling products and other sources such as minerals in your water. This will give your hair a nice shine and bounce. Remember to condition well after shampooing.
