No, Gold Edition is a standalone product containing all the original game's content plus the expansion pack, Rise of Rome.
Gold edition is that you get The War Chiefs in bonus. I personally recommend it.
My copy had 1 CD with both the original and Expansion. This was just the Jewel case version. My friend had the original release Gold Edition and it came with two CDs - the original game and the expansion. There is another Collector's Edition that came with AOE and AOE Gold Editions - it had four CDs. The Jewelcase version of AOE2 Gold Edition has two CDs. Hope this helps/

Rome: Total War Gold Edition is a strategy video game that combines the original Rome: Total War with its expansion, Barbarian Invasion. Released in 2004, it allows players to control factions in the Roman Republic and later the Empire, engaging in both real-time battles and turn-based strategy on a detailed map of the ancient world. The Gold Edition enhances the experience with improved graphics and gameplay features, making it a popular choice among strategy game enthusiasts.
