Official wow patches are applied automatically, there is no way you can NOT download the patch. If there is a patch available, the client will update itself. If you choose not to update, you will not be able to play.
When starting WoW, the launcher already checks the patch level and will download the patches required to play the game. If you want to do this manually, you can check for download mirrors for the patch, which are documented on third party sites like wowwiki and wowpedia.
Gotta pay SP for it. Search for that to find an answer if you need to

Normally when Blizzard has a new patch for wow then it updates itself automatically. The current patch number is 4.2. If you are using any other version of World of Warcraft, then you are not playing on the live official servers. When you press play wow. It wont let you press the play button. It will download "updating" tools and then it will start the download of the actual patch. When that bar is red then you cant play, when it goes yellow then you can. When its green would be the best time to play if you don't want any complications with your gaming time (like lags, etc) .
download a new patch. you go to the page where you normally find the maplestory download stuff or sumthin, scroll down, and look for a wizet patcher.

Sometimes when you click on WoW, and log into your account it says new patch, and it loads to 100% then turns off WoW and opens a mini tab that shows the patch being downloaded.
It depends on what kind of patch it is. If it is a bug-fix patch, then it should only take a few minutes to less than 20 minutes. If it is a content patch then maybe less than an hour. If it is a major content patch (pre-expansion/major content revision) expect it to take several hours. Of course this all depends on your internet connection and the amount of people trying to download the patch at the same time you are.
