The plot is not particularly complex, essentially the first was following the movements of an assassin who completes a series of asassinations and then has to kill his own boss when his true motives are revealed. This is all from the viewpoint of a direct descendant who can slip into visions of what happened with some help from scientists.
The second game has its own storyline, so you need not have played the first.

Assassins Creed Brotherhood because in those games you can free roam and you can stil shoot like with a crossbow (i think) and you've got new abilities like riding a horse IN a city and you can man a canon. So my choice Assassins Creed Brotherhood but if you don't know the storys of the other games then its hard to understand youre choice.
