First...you can't claim anyone that doesn't meet the qualifcations of a "qualifying child or relative". That includes having their ID and support for why they qualify...and they don't file or are claimed by anyone else. How much you pay is more dependent on how much you make, certainly not on number of dependents (which is one of many dedcutions available, and by no means the biggest). The amount you may have to pay with your return, or get back after, depends on how much you paid in through withholding or estimated payments compared to the amount you ultimately owe.

For federal taxes, there is a Form W-4 and a Form W-9, but I could find no Federal Form W-49. mgib benefits are supposed to be tax free. I gave my daughter 9 months of my post 9/11 mgib this year, so I will see what happens when we file our taxes. As far as I know however, the benefits should be tax free.
