While cleaning the tank, you can put the lizards in a secure, temporary container with proper ventilation. Make sure the container is escape-proof and provides a comfortable environment for them to stay in temporarily. Never leave them unattended outside of their tank.
Drain the fuel in the tank into a container with a tight cap by opening the fuel petcock under the tank. Before you do this you must losen the lower end of the small fuel hose and put this into the container. Then when all fuel is deplete from the tank put the new fuel into it.

You can put petrol (UK spelling) into a diesel container (can) provided the container is empty. It is best not to, though, in case you later empty the petrol into a diesel vehicle's tank by mistake - which could happen if the container happens to be marked diesel on the outside of the container.

You don't have to find the volume ! If gas is put into a closed container, it fills it. The volume of gas in a one liter tank is one liter.
